Maternity UIF Claim Questions

It is already a sensitive time for you. You shouldn't have to stress about the UIF Maternity benefit process. We've put together some frequently asked questions to clear up some things you may been wondering about.
Who can apply for the Maternity UIF benefit?

South African citizens who have been paying UIF on a monthly basis who are not paid more than 75% of their salaries while on maternity leave.

You can apply for the Maternity UIF benefit from the day after your maternity leave starts until 6 months after the baby is born.

Yes. You can apply even if your baby has not been born yet. However you will only receive payment once the birth of your baby has been confirmed with a birth certificate.

It varies. Lama Solutions cannot give a timeline as it is dependent on the Department of Labour.

If you miscarry or have a stillborn child in the third trimester, you may still claim for 6 weeks.

Funds are paid directly from the Department of Labour into your bank account. Hence we ask for your proof of bank account

Zero. Clients pay a once-off fee of R800 before we start with the submission process and we support you until you receive your funds directly into your bank account from the Department of Labour.

No. Due to the POPI Act, clients will have to call the DOL themselves to check the status of their claim. You can call on 0800 030 007 (toll free). Clients can also check their UIF status in South Africa, by dialing *134*843# on any mobile phone for a free, instant check.
